Derek Birch & Son Jewellers is a small family run business that was set up over 50 years ago by Derek Birch when he came to the island from Sheffield, as a hand engraver. Our products are made to the highest standard of craftsmanship where customers can select from a wide range of the items that we have in stock. We also offer a bespoke service where we make items to the requirements of the individual customers from sterling silver, gold or platinum using various techniques and setting of precious and semiprecious stones. We specialise in engagement, wedding and eternity rings.
Having been in the jewellery trade for 40 years starting as a hand engraver before moving onto designing and making jewellery by hand Mike has accumulated a vast knowledge of the trade. Now specialising in diamond setting and having studied gemmology in Germany, Mike can advise customers on the many different stones that are sold within his shop.
Annette completed her apprenticeship in 2010 at Gillson’s Jewellers & Silversmiths and moved to Derek Birch & Son in 2011. Having always had a keen interest in the jewellery trade, she also brings her own style to the jewellery that she makes.
Having recently finished his apprenticeship, Matt has a flair for the classic style of jewellery. Trained in the traditional methods of jewellery making, he can make pieces using both old and new techniques.
Ilze is currently doing her apprenticeship. Ilze’s love of the ocean influences the style of the items that she makes.
Working in the shop at weekends and during school holidays, Anaya is happy to help customers and keep a fresh look to the jewellery on display.
